CAFE DU NORD
Café Du Nord is a nightclub, restaurant and live music venue located in the landmark Swedish-American building in the Upper Market district of San Francisco. Although the Du Nord is known for the quality of the national music acts it showcases, the club retains the ambiance of a classic lounge. Built in 1907, it has maintained its Victorian interiors, featuring the original faux decorated paneling and wainscoting, and a forty-foot hand carved mahogany bar. Details throughout the club hearken back to its past life as a notorious speakeasy during Prohibition. The rich red walls and dark wood interior create the perfect environment to enjoy classic cocktails and the most eclectic live music in town — seven nights a week.
THE SWEDISH AMERICAN HALL
Located above Café Du Nord, the Swedish American Hall was built in 1907 and has retained all of its Old World charm. Its centerpiece is a spectacular grand ballroom finished by Swedish craftsmen, with a warm hardwood floor, old country gables and attractive skylights. Combined with Café Du Nord, the Swedish American Hall is an undiscovered gem on the San Francisco private events scene. To learn more about private events at the Swedish American Hall, click here.

The Minus One on slide show now playing "The Minus One" is the name of the group Dana Alberts, Liam Hart and Mike Henry started in the eighties. The band released four singles through the "Skate Rock" series through Thrasher Magazine, and appeared on “One Giant Leap”, a compilation record released in England on Venture Records in 1983. The next year, they recorded “Where A Man Was Made,” with Spencer Dryden on drums (Jefferson Airplane drummer) and Naomi Ruth Isenberg (Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks) on violin. Minus One toured the U.S. in 1985 with the VKTMS, the punk band formed by drummer Louis Gwerder and featuring Nyna Crawford. Later that year Alberts was approached by Danny Sugerman, the author and former manager of the “Doors, and Iggy Pop's manager, after Sugerman had heard a tape of the band. This led them to an offer of a record deal from Geffen Records. The band, broke up before the deal could be consummated. They reformed in late 2006, and are be currently rehearsing to play extensively in 2007.
